Senior Structural Engineer - Birmingham
Our Client, fast growing multi-disciplinary engineering and management consultancy, is looking for Senior Structural Engineer to run a team of two engineers in the office near Birmingham. Great possibility for career progression as the company has now 5 offices in the UK with 14 engineers and is planning to grow the business to 40 employees strong in the next few years.
The salary would be based on experience and chartered status, but would be anywhere between £35,000 - £45,000 per annum.

Senior Structural Engineer
Reports to: Associate Director
Hours of Work: 37.5 - The working week is normally worked 9.00 am to 5.30 pm Monday to Friday.
Based: Birmingham
Purpose
Managing the day to day running of civil and/or structural engineering projects under their control whilst assisting in the production and delivery of those projects and offering design support and developing skills and experience in all areas of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring that all project staff are fully conversant with the project brief, scope of service and associated timescales
- Record any design changes prior to being carried out whilst liaising with line manager
- Have an awareness of the fee proposal which details an agreed scope of service with appropriate costs, timescales and level of PI
- Assist in the production of in-house design programmes to enable efficient service delivery
- Using knowledge and experience in the latest design software packages supervise and/or produce sustainable, innovative and bespoke engineering design solutions in accordance with the requirements of the client within standard company processes and procedures
- Supervise and/or undertake technical and feasibility studies including site investigations
- Supervise and/or check complex calculations and drawings
- Impart detailed knowledge and experience of Engineering Section Agreements
- Impart detailed knowledge and experience of design guidance and legislation
- Maintain personal skills and knowledge through Compulsory Professional Development (CPD)
- Reinforce team approach throughout all development efforts
- Develop awareness and knowledge of managing junior staff whilst fulfilling existing duties, including mentoring and coaching on technical design matters
General Responsibilities
- Assist and support staff and directors as necessary and appropriate and in accordance with the in-house Quality Management Procedures to ensure the completion and timely delivery of all services in a professional manner
- Carrying out duties at all times in accordance with the Company’s Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety Policies
- Identify and recommend to the Management, as appropriate, changes to company standards and procedures to maintain technical competence
- Undertake other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the post, which falls within ability and competence, as determined by the management or to reflect changes in business requirements.
Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
- Relevant degree: Civil / Structural Engineering, preferably MEng
- Chartered or near chartered civil/structural engineer.
Technical Skills
- Computer literate with excellent MS Office skills
- Be competent in and have a working knowledge of civil/structural design software
- Must have a driving licence to be able to visit site if necessary
- Time management skills.
Knowledge and Experience
- For this level we would envisage a minimum of 5-7 years post qualification experience of working within a design engineering environment or similar
- Understand and have a good knowledge of multiple aspects of civil and structural engineering design including contracts, fees and coding standards
- Have an awareness and knowledge of appointments and contract legislation.
