Senior Service Engineer (325jc) – Exeter - £37-40k + Vehicle + Benefits

This company provide the power for Events, Film & TV, Construction, Facilities Management, Emergency Back Up and much more. They support their diverse clientele with temporary power solutions and handle a wide variety of projects, each with its own distinct requirements. From site plans to equipment specifications, they analyse every aspect of the project and make sure that they provide the best solution for the client’s power needs.

To continue their steep performance trajectory, they are seeking a well organised, dynamic and driven individual to assist with retaining the high level of quality their customers expect from them.

Job Overview
They are looking for an experienced senior Generator Service/Project Engineer to join their growing close-knit team. As a Generator Engineer you will have an integral role within the business, assisting in the delivery of the businesses on-site activities. You must be able to work independently or as part of a team to meet customer expectations and achieve our company goals.

This role is based in Exeter with the expectation to travel where needed, nights away will also be required on occasions.

Therefore, your responsibilities will include:
- To cover all aspects of generator servicing including oil & filter changes and oil, fuel, and coolant sampling.
- To conduct load bank testing on generator units
- To accurately fault find and diagnose both mechanical and electrical issues.
- To work on a broad range of generator / engine brands including (but not limited to) Cummins, JCB, Caterpillar, Volvo, Scania, Iveco.
- To be able to work independently on engines from 10kVA to 1000KVA.
- To complete all types of engine repairs (both mechanical and electrical).
- Fuel pumps, engine belts, starter motors, fuel hoses, cooling systems, AVR’s etc.
- Batteries, battery chargers, water jacket heaters, starter cables, key-switches etc.
- To be able to interrogate different control systems such as DSE, ComAp and DEIF.
- To understand changeover systems and synchronising of paired generators.
- To be able to complete or assist on mechanical engine rebuilds / top end overhauls.
- To be able to complete or assist on control panel upgrade works / retrofits.
- To demonstrate knowledge and experience of both mechanical and electrical skillsets.

To be eligible for this role you will need the following Essential Skills & Experience
- Good level of general education
- Minimum of 5 years previous experience with a reputable Generator Hire organisation is highly desirable.
- Valid CSCS/ECS card
- Ability to manage own workload and establish priorities.
- Experience of working effectively as part of a team as well as independently
- Ability to solve problems with a positive attitude.
- Self-motivated and able to learn quickly.
- Strong attention to detail with high levels of accuracy
- Willingness to undertake further training as required for professional development.
- Able to liaise with customers professionally and convey information.
- Have an understanding that the Live Events industry regularly operates within un-sociable hours.

And Desirable Skills & Experience
- Working as part of a team on large scale events
- Brand specific generator training courses
- Controls systems training courses.
- Experience with towing large trailers
- C+E Driving licence
- Electrical qualifications – City & Guilds, 17th/18th edition
- BS7909

The ideal candidate would be an experienced Gennie Mech who has a wealth of practical hands-on experience behind them, with some management experience as well, as you may also be looking after some contract engineers during peak periods, and who is seeking a long-term role where he can progress with this rapidly expanding and dynamic company.

In return they are offering an excellent starting salary between £37 to 40k, and with overtime you could be earning in excess of £50k, as well as 28 days leave, Modern and comfortable commercial company vehicle, Mobile Phone, Company Credit Card, Laptop, Job specific tools and equipment, Company pension scheme, and potential for HGV qualifications C+E to include training on HIAB, ADR etc.
