it is a specialist unit providing support and care for people living with Huntingdon’s Disease, and our client will be looking to employ staff with the relevant experience.**
This service is a 50 bedded inpatient specialist neuro-rehabilitation service for treating and discharging people with complex neuropsychiatric needs. The site is split across 3 units:
• Unit 1 is currently undergoing a full refurbishment and is due to open in June 2018. It will specialise in providing support and care for people living with Huntingdon’s Disease.
• Unit 1 specialise in ABI (including slow stream rehabilitation) and neurobehavioural disability
• Unit 1 - Female only unit, specialising in ABI or Progressive Neurological Conditions
Our client employs the full multidisciplinary range of services to provide rehabilitation and/or stabilisation of mood and behaviour. We provide individual treatment programmes with time-lined goals and objectives to support the resident to achieve optimum rehabilitation or behaviour stabilisation, to achieve their potential and to work towards successful, sustainable discharge.
Our Speech and Language Therapist role includes:
Working as an autonomous practitioner providing highly specialist assessments, diagnosis and management of patients with swallowing and communication disorders.
Providing leadership for developing and evaluating the SLT provision for specific aspects of the service as well as providing SLT to own caseload at a specialist level.
Developing and delivering training programmes to ensure increased awareness of communication and/or swallowing difficulties and their management.
To be successful as a Speech and Language Therapist, you’ll need:
· Relevant training and qualifications including dysphagia training
· HCPC membership
· RCLST membership
Skills/Knowledge:
· An understanding of neuro-behavioural rehabilitation;
· Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with people;
· A working understanding of SLT theory and its application to neuro-behavioural rehabilitation;
· Experience of working with challenging behaviour;
· High standard of written communication
· Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
· Evidence of good caseload and time management skills
· Ability to maintain reflective practice and development of SLT skills.
· Experience of delivering SLT assessments and treatment programmes
· Experience of collaborative practice with various members of the team
