Mechanical Field Service Technician (116jc) – Remote, Covering South West England - £32,500 - 35k + Benefits
My client, who are now one of the UK’s leading distributors for some of the largest fuel equipment companies across the globe are now seeking a Mechanical Field Service Technician to join their expanding team.
DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.
You will be reporting to the Service Manager; and your role will be to attend commercial sites as directed by your Team Manager and or service planner and to manage your day-to-day workloads, completing Compex Mechanical inspections, PPM tasks and remedial works as required and directed by your team manager or have planned yourself. Completing all required reports, certificates required for the tasks carried out.
Therefore, your main responsibilities will include:
- Liaison with Team Manager & customers who require service, technical support, proposal of possible new opportunities for further work.
- Update at least on a weekly basis the schedule for themselves, holidays, sickness time and send to the Team Manager on a weekly basis.
- Ensure ALL relevant paperwork is returned to the office, including work sheets and reports within a timely manner. No more than 1 week behind.
- To provide regular feedback of information within their customer base including all potential business opportunities to the Team Manager and Sales team.
- Undergo audits and site inspections as required by Team Manager or General Manager to improve standards at all times.
- Manage the health and safety issues related to themselves and those required by the customers sites, sub- contractors you are working with.
- Perform routine maintenance on industrial boiler fuelling equipment and associated control systems – test fuel in tanks – report and address any system issues in a timely fashion.
- To ensure strict confidentiality is observed, when dealing with client information.
- Willing to undertake any other work in any other areas or activities of the business as required.
To be eligible for this role, you will need the following Qualifications, skills, and experience:
- +3 years of experience in a mechanical engineering environment, experience with hazardous areas, fuel installations and tank inspections maintenance desirable.
- IT skills completing online certification and work sheets.
- Excellent organisation skills.
- Excellent customer facing / communication skills.
- Commercially astute to recognise business opportunities when they arise.
- Willingness to travel to client sites. *
- Willingness to do professional development training to enhance both technical and personal skills.
- Working as part of a team or on your own.

1. Esso, Shell, BP, ASIG, North Air. Met. Police
2. Vivo, Vinci, Amey, Integral, Boden Group, Interserve, ANTAC, Skanska, Engie, Richard Irvin, Servest, Network rail sites, Home delivery companies, Airports and Ports throughout the UK.
- N.V.Q Level 3 Engineering Maintenance Installation - desirable
- Mechanical Engineering Modern Apprenticeship - desirable
- C&G Mechanical Engineering or equivalent - this or any one of above desirable
- Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Mechanical Engineering - Optional
- CompEx 11 Mechanical in Hazardous Areas – Optional
- Commercial electrical installation and testing qualifications (NVQ Level 3 or industry equivalent) - Desirable
- Double & Single skin Pipework fitting, valves, tank Gauging knowledge - desirable
- OFTEC 600A – Tank installation and Maintenance – desirable
- Confined space – Desirable
- Working at Height – Desirable
- Clean Driving Licence – Essential
- SC, DV, DBS clearance and Clean Criminal record due nature of client and customers area of Work. Required.
The ideal candidate would be someone who has a strong engineering background from a BFI background and/or aircraft refuelling, so either RLC Pet Op, or RAF or RN equivalent, so if you tick the essential requirements and most of the desirable, please feel free to apply as they will give training in the areas that you will need. They are also looking for individuals who have a vehicle electrical background, either REME or RE would also be considered.
In return they are offer an excellent starting package of £32 to £35k and once you have completed some training courses, your salary will increase, with progression after completion of probation and over time up to double time for weekend working. You will also be provided with a Company Van and Fuel Card, phone, and laptop.
