Our client has an exciting new role in their Maidenhead office.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting our client's Research & Development team by ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the R&D workshop and laboratories, making sure that equipment is calibrated and maintained, that consumables are re-stocked and ensuring general tidiness of the workspace.
DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.
You will also be assisting the R&D team with a wide range of prototyping and test activities, including the build-up of prototype units through soldering, wiring and other electronics hand skills, and utilising test equipment to help diagnose faults.
The ideal candidate will be coming from a senior (SNCOs and above) Electrical Mechanical background or even a Communications one.
What will you be doing?
Stewardship of the laboratory and workshop spaces:
• Calibration and maintenance of test equipment and facilities, including arranging third party support where required.
• Organising and maintaining R&D test equipment and facilities to a high standard.
• Maintaining asset registers.
• Procurement of consumables, spare parts, and workshop/lab equipment.
• Overseeing the safety of the workshops and laboratories, ensuring that users are appropriately trained and qualified to use the equipment and that they are aware of any relevant safety hazards and risks.
• Training engineers (and others as required) on how to use the lab/equipment.
Assisting with R&D activities:
• Conducting component research and ordering components for prototyping.
• Building PCBs at component level.
• Soldering, wiring and assembly of prototypes in support of R&D activities.
• Conducting product testing following a defined qualification test procedure (QTP) and providing feedback on the quality of QTPs.
• Arranging prototype manufacturing builds and collaborating remotely with their factories in Barcelona (Spain), České Budějovice (the Czech Republic) and West Sussex, Wisconsin (United States).
• Working with production to update parts lists and raise Engineering Change Notes.
• Preparing products for field trials (customer beta testing) and supporting coordination of field trials.
• Specification and development of test equipment, jigs, and fixtures.
• Assisting the customer service and R&D team in fault finding, isolation and resolution across the product range.
• Ensuring the standards within the internal database are in-date, monitoring for changes in standards and signposting these changes to the R&D team.
What type of person are you?
• Confident in reading and interpreting electronic schematics and layouts.
• Able to build prototype boards to a schematic and diagnose and test faults.
• Good electronics workshop skills, including wiring, soldering, use of scopes and other test equipment.
• Experienced in isolating and repairing faults down to component level.
• Experience in the use of CAD and 3d printers would be a bonus but is not essential.
• Good communication and excellent organization skills.
• Be a self-starter with a can-do attitude.
• Have an analytical and proactive approach.
• The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications & Experience
• HNC/HND and/or City & Guilds qualification in an electronics related discipline.
• Prior experience of working as a technician supporting R&D and prototyping activities (desirable).
• Candidates must have prior experience of using their own initiative and creativity to solve problems within a dynamic working environment.
Flexible and Remote Working
Flexible hours and part-time working options are available for this role.
The hands-on nature of this role means that most of the work must be conducted on site, though occasional remote working may be possible.
