Senior Network Design Engineer (132dm) – Newport - £550 per day Umbrella, £490.49 per day Deemed Ltd, £415.76 per day PAYE
This Senior Network Engineers role requires the candidate to have proven competence in the field of the design and development of network communications services that are designed for assured and high assured networks.
DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.
This role is to provide architecture and design skills to the project team proposing and delivering solutions based primarily on COTS applications, in-Service based solutions. To act as a leading technical contact for design activities in network communications, routing, switching and firewalls.
Contract duration- 6 months
Security clearance- Current SC Clearance must be willing to obtain NATO Clearance.

Key Responsibilities
• As a Senior SME for Secure Network & Communications, within that scope:
• Devise, create and fully describe the logical and capability based system network architectural solution
• Identify the relevant COTS components to achieve these architectural solutions
• The roles demand high proficiency in Networking and Firewalls
• Cisco & Juniper-based products
• Palo Alto firewalls
• Contribute to bid and delivery projects through assessment, design and implementation planning, whist establishing the requirements on the underlying platforms and security requirements.
• Design of technical solutions
Work with the assigned Solution Architect to within your SME Scope:
• Preparation of impact analyses of change
• Support the definition of technology requirements and the selection of security and network technologies in support of the target designs.
• Contribute to planning, description and execution of the configuration, implementation and integration.
• Produce client deliverables such as assessment reports, requirement documents, technical designs, operational procedures, user guides
• Workings with a Security Architect/Accreditor to identify suitable solutions and technologies to mitigate the security risks.
• Contribute to the identification of technical and programmatic risks including effective mitigation strategies
• Ensure system integrity is maintained and that all applicable standards are maintained
• Working with third party suppliers providing COTS and bespoke system components
• Manage Maintenance Releases through managed change
Augment the delivery Lead Engineer to manage client relationships in delivery phase
Be responsible for ensuring that their input and that of any other team members assigned is of the required standard, detail and timeliness.
Key Relationships
• Maintain & Communicate effectively with team members and key stakeholders in the business.
• Manage & Report progress on engineering tasks as required to the project manager and engineering management.
• Operate with other engineers in all functions to ensure that project engineering practices are carried out to acceptable standards.
• Project Managers and business leaders to ensure customer requirements are understood and project plans allow for adequate engineering solutions.
• Make technical decisions within the build tasks, establishing the best solutions for the products in question.
• Be able to isolate and demonstrate failures in the product or system built, identifying likely causes and solutions.
• Be capable of applying general principles and experience to solve complex problems.
Creation of network rigs in line with specifications.
Skills/Experience
Essential:
• Exposure of working with a high availability & highly secure systems; Skillful in identifying design risks.
• Proven experience of working with at least 1 of the following sectors Defence or UK Central Government
• Proven experience of designing multi-vendor complex secure communications and information exchange network interfaces to government grade.
• Proven experience of working with product vendors to optimize a solution
• Working knowledge of JSP’s, NATO STANAGs
• Have worked and led small Technical Teams in both a development and delivery role.
• Knowledge of Enterprise Grade Certificate Services & PKI – either delivery or utilisation.
• Have completed a recognised Engineering Apprentice with HNC-D or Engineering Qualification to Degree level – essential
Highly Desirable:
• Experience of supporting a formal accreditation or evaluation process e.g . ISO 27001, NATO, CAS, CPS
• Knowledge of formal architecture methods.
• Demonstration by experience the ability to support all phases of a Technical delivery from initial requirements capture through to in-service operations.
• Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong in the area of dealing with security evaluation and accreditation issues.
• Good customer-facing and customer-management skills, as there will be many expectations to manage.
• Technical Certification to CCNP level
• Skilled with the design of Directory Based Operating Systems
• Familiar with Architectural Frameworks, NAF/TOGAF/MBSE
• Qualified in at least 2 major Network Vendors and one OS vendor
• Membership of a professional body – desirable (e.g. IET, BCS)
